Farewell, Foot Music Fans!

Dear beloved Foot Music Fans,

Your host is moving out of town, and so the show has to stop, for now. I'm moving to Las Vegas for a year, and then Pasadena, California (near Los Angeles) in Fall 2009.

The website FootMusic.org will remain up in its current form.

I still have all the playlists from the old shows going back to January 2008, before I started making recordings. I may start posting those here some time. And I have a couple ideas for future world music ventures; if you subscribe to this blog then you will be the first to hear about them. You can enter your email address on the right side of the page at FootMusic.org, or subscribe in your favorite RSS reader by finding the little orange "feed" icon in the address bar above.

In the meantime, I hope that the programming committee can find a good show to replace mine, and also find something for the Tuesday world beat slot which is also open.

It's been a lot of fun doing this show, and I'm definitely going to miss WEFT and all its great volunteers.

Thanks to everyone who helped me get started at WEFT, and everyone who helped me along the way!

I got an email from François Couture!

I was really excited to see this email in my inbox this morning:

From: Disques BOGHEI Records inc. <info@boghei.com>
Date: Sun, May 4, 2008 at 9:04 AM
Subject: qallunak

Hi David

Thank you

for the airplay on Foot music

All the best

Francois Couture

I often play songs from François Couture's albums Qallunak and Ludovica when I need a somber, earthy, urgent, fascinating song. It feels like Electronica, but it is not. Based in Quebec, Francois Couture combines guitar and percussion with Inuit singers to make a song that is quite unique.

I'm wondering how his email to me was generated, and if François Couture actually wrote it, or even saw my name. The email might just be a service of the record company. But somewhere down the line, someone had to find out my name and email address so they had to do a little bit of research on the web.

Whenever we airshifters do a show at WEFT, we are required to write down the name, artist, album, and record label of each song, so that these numbers can get reported back to the record company, accompanied by some amount of royalty payment. This is the first time I have ever gotten any kind of feedback from outside of WEFT for my playlist.

I first heard François Couture on the Francophiliacs show on WEFT.
